Popbye: Ad Blocker for Safari · Version 1.0 · Last updated: 23 October 2026
1. Who we are
Popbye: Ad Blocker for Safari ("Popbye", "the app") is provided by NEMESIDA SMART DATA LTD, a company registered in Cyprus under number HE 465547, with its registered office at Theofilou Georgiadi 3E, Agios Athanasios, 4103 Limassol, Cyprus ("we", "us"). We are the controller of the personal data described in this Privacy Policy.
Privacy questions and requests: privacy@popbye.app. General support: support@popbye.app.
This Privacy Policy applies to version 1.0 of the Popbye iOS app, including its Safari extensions, and to the website popbye.app.
2. Summary
- Popbye cannot see the pages you open in Safari, your browsing history or your internet traffic. Safari applies Popbye's blocking rules itself.
- Popbye is not a VPN and doesn't change your DNS. It has no accounts and never asks for your name, email address or phone number.
- Your paused sites, hidden elements and YouTube Shield count are stored only on your iPhone.
- We do not sell your personal data, do not show ads in the app and do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. Popbye 1.0 doesn't ask for tracking permission and doesn't use the advertising identifier (IDFA).
- We process a limited amount of pseudonymous data to run subscriptions (through Apple and RevenueCat), to measure Apple Ads campaigns and, unless you turn it off, to collect anonymous usage statistics (through TelemetryDeck).
3. How Popbye blocks ads in Safari
Popbye's Ad Blocker and Tracker Blocker are Safari content blockers. The app gives Safari lists of blocking rules, and Safari applies them to the pages you open. Content blockers have no access to the pages themselves, their content, the addresses you visit or your browsing history, so neither the app nor we ever learn which websites you visit. Popbye doesn't route your traffic through a VPN or a DNS server, and there is no Popbye account.
- Free and paid features. Basic ad blocking (ads, plus a regional list chosen from your iPhone's language) works without a subscription. Popbye Pro adds blocking of cookie banners and pop-ups, social widgets, Tracker Blocker, YouTube Shield and Hide an Element.
- Your settings. Which categories are turned on, the sites you pause and the elements you hide are stored only on your iPhone, in storage shared between the Popbye app and its extensions. They are deleted when you delete the app.
4. Safari extensions and features
- Pause Popbye on This Site. When you open Popbye from Safari's Share menu, it reads the address of the current page only to pause or resume Popbye on that site. The site's domain is stored only on your iPhone. You can also add or remove paused sites in the app.
- Site Doesn't Work. Only when you tap it in the Share menu, Popbye opens an email draft to support@popbye.app. The draft contains the site address, the Popbye version and the iOS version. You see the draft and decide whether to send it. Nothing is sent automatically. If you send it, we receive the email, including your email address and anything you add.
- YouTube Shield. YouTube Shield is an optional Safari web extension, available with Popbye Pro. You turn it on separately, and it works only on youtube.com in Safari after you allow it. It skips video ads and counts the skipped ads on your iPhone. The count is shown in the app and never leaves your device. YouTube Shield sends nothing to us or to anyone else.
- Hide an Element. Hide an Element works only after you tap it in Safari's extensions menu, and only on the current page (Safari's activeTab permission). The selector of the element you choose and the site's domain are stored only on your iPhone, as a hiding rule for that site. You can remove hidden elements in the app.
- Notifications. If you allow notifications, Popbye can remind you when its blocker has been turned off in Safari and a day before a free trial ends. These are local notifications created and scheduled on your iPhone. We don't run a push notification server and don't receive any data about them.
- Test Popbye. The Test Popbye button opens the test page on popbye.app inside the app. The page checks on your iPhone which test items Popbye removed and doesn't contact any ad or tracking company. Section 5.2 describes what our website processes.
5. Data we process
Apart from the on-device features described above, we process only the data in the table below. None of it includes the websites you visit.
| Category | What exactly | Who processes it | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purchases and subscriptions | A random anonymous app user ID generated by the RevenueCat SDK; subscription status, product, price, currency, purchase, trial and renewal dates and App Store transaction details; device and app information such as device model, iOS version, app version and country or App Store storefront | Apple (payments), RevenueCat, Inc. | To unlock Popbye Pro, restore purchases on your devices, handle trials and renewals, choose which subscription offer the app shows and report revenue |
| Apple Ads attribution | An attribution token from Apple's AdServices framework, sent to Apple (by the app itself on first launch, and through RevenueCat), and the campaign information Apple returns for it (for example, campaign, ad group and keyword). If Apple confirms the install came from an Apple Ads campaign, the app stores the marker "apple_search_ads" with your anonymous RevenueCat ID | Apple, RevenueCat, Inc. | To learn whether an install came from one of our Apple Ads campaigns and to show the subscription offer prepared for that campaign |
| Anonymous usage analytics | Usage signals with fixed event names and coarse values only, such as onboarding steps, paywall shown, plan selected, purchase completed and blocker turned on; app version, iOS version, device model, language and region; a one-way hashed identifier used only to count unique devices | TelemetryDeck GmbH | To understand which features are used and where the app can be improved |
| Support requests | Your email address, the content of your message and anything you choose to attach | Our email forwarding and email service providers | To answer your request |
| Crash reports | Technical crash logs, only if you allowed sharing with app developers in iOS (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements) | Apple | To find and fix bugs |
- No tracking. Popbye 1.0 doesn't ask for tracking permission and doesn't use the advertising identifier (IDFA). We don't link the data above with data from other companies for advertising. The Apple Ads attribution token doesn't contain the IDFA, doesn't require tracking permission and is not combined with third-party data.
- Analytics never include sites. Analytics signals never include the websites you visit, the domains you pause or hide, or anything you type. They are not linked to your identity and are not used for tracking or advertising.
- Turning off analytics. You can turn off anonymous usage analytics at any time in the app: Settings → Privacy → Share Anonymous Analytics. When it's off, nothing is sent.
- IP addresses. Like any internet service, our providers receive your device's IP address when the app connects to them. We don't receive it from them and don't use it to identify you.
5.1 Filter list updates
To keep its filters fresh, the app may download updated filter lists from popbye.app. These requests contain no information about your browsing. Our server, hosted by Railway, may record your IP address in standard server logs, as any web server does. We don't use it to identify you. Without an internet connection, Popbye works with the filter lists built into the app.
5.2 Our website
The website popbye.app doesn't use cookies, analytics or third-party scripts. Railway, our hosting provider, may process your IP address and technical request details (such as the page requested, time and browser type) in standard server logs to deliver the website and keep it secure.
5.3 Advertising attribution (only with your permission)
Popbye 1.0 does not use advertising identifiers and does not ask for permission to track you. It doesn't link a click on an ad with your install or purchases, except for the Apple Ads attribution described above, which is not tracking under Apple's rules.
If a future version of Popbye asks for tracking permission to measure our advertising, it will work only if you allow it in the iOS system dialog, you will be able to withdraw your permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, and we will update this Privacy Policy before that version is released.
6. Legal bases
We rely on the following legal bases under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — to provide the app and Popbye Pro, process subscriptions and restore purchases.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — to improve the app with anonymous usage analytics, measure our Apple Ads campaigns, keep the app and our website secure and answer support requests. You can object at any time, including by turning off analytics in the app.
- Legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c)) — to keep transaction records required by tax and accounting laws.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — Popbye 1.0 doesn't process personal data on the basis of consent. Notifications and YouTube Shield are turned on with iOS and Safari permissions, and their data stays on your iPhone.
7. Service providers and international transfers
We share data only with the providers below and only for the purposes in section 5. We do not sell or rent personal data.
- Apple Inc. and its affiliates — App Store distribution, payments, Apple Ads attribution and crash reports. Apple acts under its own privacy policy for payments and your Apple Account.
- RevenueCat, Inc. (United States) — subscription management, acting on our behalf as a processor.
- TelemetryDeck GmbH (Germany) — anonymous usage analytics, acting on our behalf as a processor.
- Railway Corporation (United States) — hosting of the website popbye.app, acting on our behalf as a processor.
- Cloudflare, Inc. (United States) and our email service provider — forwarding, delivery and storage of support emails, acting on our behalf.
We may also disclose data if required by law or to protect our rights, or to a successor if our business is transferred.
Some providers process data outside the European Economic Area, in particular in the United States. In that case we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or another lawful transfer mechanism, such as the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework where the recipient is certified under it.
8. How long we keep data
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Settings, paused sites, hidden elements and the YouTube Shield count | On your iPhone only, until you change them or delete the app |
| Purchase and subscription records | For as long as your subscription is active and afterwards for the period required by tax and accounting laws |
| Apple Ads attribution data | For as long as the related purchase records are kept |
| Anonymous usage analytics | Up to 24 months, then deleted or kept only in aggregated form |
| Website server logs | For a short period set by our hosting provider, no longer than 90 days |
| Support emails | Up to 24 months after your request is resolved |
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access your personal data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, receive it in a portable format and withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, write to privacy@popbye.app. We will answer within one month.
Because the app does not use accounts and the data we process is pseudonymous, we may not be able to identify you from your request alone. In that case we may ask for information that helps locate your data, such as the date of a purchase or your App Store order ID.
- Data on your iPhone is under your control: remove paused sites and hidden elements in the app, or delete the app to remove all of it.
- Subscriptions and refunds are managed by Apple: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, and reportaproblem.apple.com for refunds.
- Analytics can be turned off in the app at any time.
- Complaints. You can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection in Cyprus (dataprotection.gov.cy) or with the data protection authority in your country.
10. Other information
- Children. Popbye is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly process their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
- Security. Data is transmitted to our providers over encrypted connections. Access to it is limited to what is needed to run the app and our business.
- U.S. residents. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as these terms are defined in U.S. state privacy laws. You may exercise the rights available under your state's law by writing to us.
- Changes. We may update this Privacy Policy, for example when a new version of the app works differently. We will publish the new version on this page with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, inform you in the app.
